A land of warm and friendly people, beautiful beaches and relaxing luxury resorts, delicious local delicacies and superb international cuisine, and many options for adventure tourism, Jamaica has it all!
I was lucky enough to be able to participate in a Travel Agent trip sponsored by The Jamaica Tourism Board and Air Jamaica. Starting in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, offering a glimpse of the country's colonial past and a vibrant nightlife, the city is perfectly situated for an overnight visit to the Blue Mountains, famous as the growing area for the best coffee in the world. Accommodation ranges from campsites in the National Reserve, to full service hotels, where the greenery and flowers surround you, and the views go on for miles and miles. Check out the Starlight Chalet for a truly relaxing get-away.
Next stop was the North Coast, including Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay and Montego Bay. This is where the majority of the resorts are, next to white sandy beaches, and deep blue-green waters.
For a old colonial Jamaica experience, stay at The Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, where your private bungalow opens directly onto the beach, and the outdoor spa offers relaxing treatments cooled by the gentle sea breezes.
Honeymooners love Couples San Souci, built on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean. The property is surrounded by tropical gardens, and offers a clothing optional beach for the brave and adventurous. Don't forget your sunscreen!
For the ultimate in luxury, stay at Sandals Villagio near Dunn's River Falls. All watersports are included in your vacation, and a private candle light dinner on the beach can easily be arranged. Some suites have a private dip pool, just for you. Take a tour of Dunn's River Falls, where a guide will lead you up the falls from the beach to the top, in tandem with your tour mates. A very invigorating experience!
Montego Bay is a vibrant exciting city, with a reputation for partying, but many resorts also cater to families with children. Sunset Beach Spa & Resort has a full-sized WaterPark on their property (free entry for guests), that will keep the kids busy all day. The Holiday Inn Sunspree's tanning beach is a small island offshore, which is reached by wading thru the sea, a tropical adventure for children of all ages. Most hotels also have extensive "Kids Clubs", supervised fun for children, to give their parents a bit of me time.
In summary, Jamaica has it all, no matter what kind of holiday you are looking for. As they say in Jamaica "Once you go, you know!"
